(Four years ago)
She didn’t remember the moment the glass shattered.
Only the echo — the sound of something breaking that could never be fixed again.
Rain poured through the open car door, streaking down her face, her fingers, her trembling throat. The world smelled of metal and smoke.
Someone was screaming. It might’ve been her.
And then—
He was there.
Ishvay Goenka.
Her brother’s best friend.
A man too composed for chaos, too calm for a night that reeked of death.
He knelt in front of her, the rain sliding off his hair, his jaw tight as his eyes found hers — not with shock, but recognition.
Like he’d been waiting for this moment his entire life.
“Arvisha,” he whispered. Her name sounded different in his voice — like a vow, like a sin.
Her lips trembled. “I—I didn’t mean to—”
“Shh.” He brushed a wet strand from her cheek, his thumb smearing blood across her skin. His touch was gentle. Reverent.
But his words — his words were pure command.
“You didn’t do this. Do you understand?”
She looked at the lifeless shape on the ground. The blood. The broken glass. Her mind fractured in panic.
He leaned closer until his breath warmed her ear.
“I did.”
Her Heart stopped.
HiS hand cupped the back of her neck, firm enough to steady, soft enough to soothe. “I’ll take care of it. You’ll forget. That’s the only way I can keep you safe.”
And then he kissed her forehead — slow, deliberate, like he was marking something that had always been his.
“Forget this night,” he murmured, pulling her into his chest as sirens began to wail.
“Forget me, if you must. But understand, Arvisha… you’re mine now. Even if you never remember why.”
